About the Project

A wide range of programs across NSHE institutions leverage distributed sensor technologies for science, forming a cooperative Nevada Science Network (NvSciNet). The Nevada Seismological Laboratory (NSL) operates the backbone of this statewide wireless network, connecting sites for earthquake monitoring, fire science, mountain climate, snowpack research, and more. Partners include the Nevada Climate-ecohydrology Assessment Network (NevCAN), the DRI Western Regional Climate Center (WRCC), ALERTWildfire, the Nevada State Climate Office, and the Summit Lake Paiute Tribe.

NSHE Research Engineering and NSHE NevadaNet support this cooperative network by providing regional fiber backhaul, connectivity to the internet and Internet2, and datacenter colocation services. Long-term goals include unifying WAN management and science platform applications to sustain NvSciNet as a public asset for science, education, and related services.
