In celebration of Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October, Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) System Computing Services (SCS) is excited to offer a series of cybersecurity webinars designed to provide valuable insights into the latest trends and challenges in both personal and professional digital security.

Jefferson Grace will discuss the evolution of critical risks that have grown in cybersecurity. The discussion will follow the underestimation that has allowed successful attacks to increase and how the evolution of generation AI now magnifies the attack surface. The advancement in AI has drastically decreased the effort needed by attackers to craft new attack methods and reduced the time required to exploit known vulnerabilities. Jefferson will highlight the consequences of Risk Acceptance and Risk Avoidance and the importance of changing the culture around risk.
Jefferson spent over 15 years as a Cybercrime Detective working with the Secret Service. DHS, and FBI as a Task Force Officer. He has extensive experience in Cybersecurity investigations, incident response, and network intrusions. He retired from Law Enforcement after 26 years before accepting a retirement job as a Deputy CISO. He remains active in the cybersecurity community and serves as the chapter president for the Nevada ISC2 Chapter and as a co-chair for the NIST Cybersecurity Career Ambassador Community of Interest.

Adam Morris is proud to serve at SHI as a Public Sector Higher Education Strategist. Adam has over 30 years of experience in Higher Education. Adam has worked in Private, Research, and 2-year institutions. Adam has worked in various roles in Student Affairs, Academics, and at the Executive level.
Prior to joining SHI, Adam worked at Academic Partnerships as an Operations Manager working with universities on improving their online learning programs. Prior to Academic Partnerships, Adam served as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Crowder College where he had oversight of areas in Curriculum, Instruction, Technical Education and Accreditation. Adam’s educational background includes two Bachelor’s degrees in business and computer Information Systems, a Master’s degree in Management, and a Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership.

Tim Hilbie serves as a Public Sector Higher Education Strategist for SHI International. In this role, Tim collaborates with customers and SHI sales teams to bring the highest level of understanding and development to curriculum, innovation, and technology, and will help to integrate those elements into the Higher Ed market.
Prior to joining SHI, Tim spent 35+ years working for the state institutions (community colleges, state universities) in Connecticut, serving in various information technology leadership positions. In his most recent position, he served as the Senior Director of Infrastructure Services, providing leadership in the technical assessment, selection, and implementation of scalable and reliable IT services across the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities.

Let’s talk cryptocurrency.
Lately it seems we hear something about this on a daily basis. Did you know that a number of schools are already accepting crypto as a donation and a few are even taking it for tuition payments? This session will talk about how widespread crypto usage is and why.
We’ll cover the basics of crypto from terminology to a high level overview. Then we will dive into what higher education really needs to know (and do) right now. I’ll share some higher ed peer stories and discuss the benefits, risks, and other things you should consider that could play a role in your decisions, like ESG commitments.
Ruth is a Payment Services Advisor for CampusGuard. She provides consulting in the areas of Treasury Operations, Payments, and Payments Risk management. She has over 35 years of experience in banking services, banking operations, not-for-profit university treasury cash management, and payments management operational leadership. Ruth leverages her insight, expertise, and hands-on knowledge to help CampusGuard clients discover hard and soft cost savings, increase revenue, and reduce risk while focusing on compliance and security.
Before joining CampusGuard, Ruth was the Managing Director of Treasury Operations at Indiana University (IU). She had university-wide responsibility for all incoming and outgoing banking and merchant service processes, financial vendor and banking relationships, cash management processes, and payments compliance for various payment rules and regulations (e.g., ACH, PCI DSS). Ruth began working for IU in 2002 and held various positions of increasing responsibility within Treasury over her 18 years there. Preceding IU, she spent nearly 14 years at a large national bank, holding roles in branch management, operations management, and cash and treasury management services.
She is a member of the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP), EPCOR Regional Payments Association, the Nacha Payments Institute Board of Regents, and the Nacha Network Advisory Board. She co-founded The Payments Academy, a non-profit organization that provides learning and collaboration opportunities for colleges and universities in payments and payments risk management.
Ruth graduated from Indiana University with a BA in Economics in 1998. Ruth holds the following professional designations: Certified Treasury Professional (CTP), Accredited ACH Professional (AAP), and Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP), achieving the latter in 2018 in the inaugural class of APRPs. At the time, she was one of less than 150 individuals carrying all three credentials. Ruth proudly describes herself as a payments geek, can translate technical (IT) jargon modestly, and is fluent in the languages of banking, payments, and higher education.
